From 1903: A Chess Dispute by Robert W. Paul
Sure it's only a minute long, silent and black and white (of course) and the plot is very basic but the historic value of this is remarkable.

Charlton Heston reads Ernest Hemingway's "The Snows of Kilimanjaro"
Pick your format to listen in each part. All are kinda old files to listen to audio (before MP3's) however .au and .gsm worked fine for me in Quicktime and .ra worked fine in Real Player. The first two formats can also be downloaded to your PC.
town.hall.org: Actor Charlton Heston reads "The Snows of Kilimanjaro," a short story by Ernest Hemingway originally published in 1938. The story takes place in Africa, which Hemingway knew and enjoyed visiting as a big game hunter. As the scene opens, Harry, a writer, is stranded with his wife and their safari party in the African bush. Their truck has broken down and Harry's leg has developed gangrene which grows progressively worse.
Throughout the story, Harry recalls scenes from his past. The scenes Hemingway describes clearly stem from his own life; he spent summers as a child in the wilderness of upper Michigan, was wounded and decorated for bravery during the First World War, and lived in Paris between the wars. The story's theme of a writer struggling with his talent resembles Hemingway's own struggles and self-questionings.
Charlton Heston won an Academy Award in 1959 for his performance in the title role of "Ben-Hur." The story is presented in four segments and has been edited for length.

Three Stooges MP4: Nertsery Rhymes
Click here to download in MP4 format to your computer
Runs approx 19 minutes
This is the first Three Stooges short filmed.
Before Larry, Moe and Curly signed up with Columbia they worked for a mean called Ted Healy who basically threated the stooges how Moe treated Larry and Curly in their Columbia Shorts. He was the boss of the show onstage and off.
Needless to say there came a point when the stooges had enough of being the "second bananas" to Healy and they severed their relationship with Healy and moved forward to become one of the greatest comedy teams in the history of media.
Ted Healy brought together a new set of stooges called "Healy's Stooges
According to "The Three Stiiges Scrapbook", co-written by Moe's daughter Moe was espically heartbroken over the death of Healy who he still considered a friend dispite their history.
Check back on The Naked Gord Program for more early Three Stooges shorts staring Healy and The Three Stooges

The First Recorded Sound discovered - 1860
Click here to play right click to download in MP3, direct from ABC.com.au
'
ABC.com.au: The oldest recording of the human voice - made 17 years before Thomas Edison invented the phonograph - has been discovered and played back by audio researchers.
The 10-second recording is of a person singing a snippet of a French folk song, 'Au clair de la lune', and was recorded on April 9, 1860 by Parisian inventor Édouard-Léon Scott de Martinville, the historians say.
Scott de Martinville used a gadget he called a "phonautograph" that scratched sound waves onto a sheet of paper blackened by the smoke of an oil lamp,
"It's magic," says David Giovannoni of First Sounds, a group of audio historians, recording engineers, sound archivists, scientists, others dedicated to preserving humankind's earliest sound recordings.
