Video game: The Three Stooges

In the 80's Cinemaware released a Three Stooges video game. The plot is pretty familiar to Three Stooges fans - they have to take on various jobs to be able to raise the funds to keep an orphanage from being closed by the evil banker. It's a fun game that I enjoyed playing as a kid on my old Amiga (it was also released as a Nintendo game and recently re-released on the Xbox). The above video is the complete game in action.

If you like what you've seen then click here to visit somethingawful.com to download in the game in .nes format to play on your home computer. You'll also be able to download an emulator to your home PC that you'll be able to use to play the game.

Download the Charlie Chaplin video game!

From 1988 comes a real oddity. A Charlie Chaplin video game for the home PC. You're playing the director of a Charlie Chaplin film and doing all the traditional tasks a director needs to do to get the film done. Fitting the mood of the time perfectly the entire game is in black and white.

You'll also need to visit here to download the Dosbox program they mention in the review to get it to play on newer PCs
(just follow the instructions in the review above to get it to work)

Penn and Teller: Smoke and Mirrors (out finally)

From Wikipedia.org:

Penn & Teller's Smoke and Mirrors is an unreleased video game planned for release initially on the Sega CD in April 1995 and to be followed by PC, 3DO versions later that year. The game starred the comedy-magician duo Penn & Teller. The developer Absolute Entertainment went out of business before they could release the game, yet the game was featured and previewed in various gaming publications such as Electronic Gaming Monthly. Electronic Arts bought the rights to publish all unreleased Absolute games. However, because the only complete version was for the struggling Sega CD, whilst the PC and 3DO versions were only 80% finished, they decided not to release or complete any version

You'll need a Sega CD system to play the game (or a Sega CD emulator on your computer).

Three Stooges video game

From Home of the Underdogs:
In this funny adaptation of the TV series that isn't as well-designed as Cinemaware's classic games, you control Larry, Curly and Moe who must collect enough money through dubious means to prevent the bankers from forcing forclosure of the town's orphanage. Gameplay is reminiscent of turn-based strategy games: you have to select how you want the stooges to get money from a number of options on any given day. The actions you can do are typically based on antics from the show that are hilarious to watch but questionable in nature, such as stealing money-- no honest means here :) Overall, a fun game that doesn't live up to Cinemaware's standard, but at least it has excellent digitized voices.

Plan 9 from Outer Space: The Video Game

From Home of the Underdogs:
Although widely hailed as the worst film ever made, Ed Wood's classic camp horror film of 1958 isn't nearly that-- but it IS one of the funniest bad films you'll ever see. The film's notoriety begs an interesting question: how can one make a good game based on the worst movie ever made?

Fortunately, the game itself isn't half bad, largely because designers at Gremlin deftly sidestepped this thorny question by not basing the game directly on the movie's plot. The premise, instead, is that Bela Lugosi's double has stolen the film reels from the archives. Though he remained faceless, he intends to bring glory to the cult classic using more footage of himself... and colorizing it! As the studio's Private Eye, your job is to find the 6 reels and screen the film, frame-by-frame, to ensure that the warped actor did not cut Bela from the flick (although just about any editing will make it better).
